Stories of Impact Featured in Contest

Incredible stories of success have sprung up all over West Virginia, speaking of the ways in which the volunteer fire department computer centers have made an impact on community lives.

To better convey these stories to the public, Future Generations Rural America hosted a contest among mentors, encouraging them to tell the best stories in the state.

The astounding entries were compiled into a booklet and distributed statewide, including the West Virginia State Fair and State Legislature.

There are many more stories out there, but 20 stories gleaned from this contest show the significantly good results of broadband Internet usage throughout West Virginia.

The contest winners were: first place, Joyce Johnson of the Big Otter VFD; second place, Shirley Warner of the Moorefield Fire Co.; third place (tie), Joey McDaniel of the Bradley-Prosperity VFD and Tim Whetzel of the Upper Tract VFD. Honorable mentions were given to Kim Davis of Flatwoods VFD and also to Joey McDaniel of Bradley-Prosperity.
