Flatwoods Technology Camp Provides Unique Experience for Area Youth

The Flatwoods Volunteer Fire Department and Future Generations combined forces to offer any 9-15 year old Braxton County resident an opportunity to attend Technology Camp. The camp was funded by the surplus from the American Patriot Act. The weeklong event ran from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. August 8th through the 12th at the Flatwoods Fire Department. Launched by U.S. Commerce Secretary

Future Generations Rural America Hosts Veterans Summit

Logan, W.Va. – Using the success of the West Virginia Broadband Opportunities Program, Future Generations Rural America is looking ahead to find the best way to help West Virginians connect to much-needed online resources.

The Franklin, W.Va. based non-profit organization recently completed a three-year project to open 60 computer centers based in volunteer fire departments around West Virginia to help train rural communities to use computers and high-speed Internet.

Military Recognition Tree at Capitol

Charleston, W.Va. — Governor and First Lady Tomblin would like to invite West Virginia families to contribute photographs for the Military Recognition Tree to be displayed in the Governor’s Reception Room at the State Capitol during State Capitol hours. Please send us a photograph of friends and families that have given their service to our state and our country. This opportunity will showcase West Virginia’s Military and give support of loved ones here at home.

Stories of Impact Featured in Contest

Incredible stories of success have sprung up all over West Virginia, speaking of the ways in which the volunteer fire department computer centers have made an impact on community lives.

To better convey these stories to the public, Future Generations Rural America hosted a contest among mentors, encouraging them to tell the best stories in the state.

The astounding entries were compiled into a booklet and distributed statewide, including the West Virginia State Fair and State Legislature.

Broadband Program Features Booth at State Fair

The West Virginia State Fair got into full swing the weekend of August 10 with rides, games, and fireworks. On August 10th, Future Generations Rural America set up a booth to promote the WV Broadband Opportunities Program at the WV State Fair.
